I just published my second note on Substack Notes, and would love for you to join me there! I’ve written a short a commentary on another author’s article about the culture of overwork in the US today, and how it makes us “bad at most things that aren’t work.” It seriously struck a chord with me, and touches on many of the reasons I write The Messy Human. Please come and join the discussion! The world needs your input on this important topic! I’d love to have it too, for selfish reasons :)
Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more. I plan to use it for things that don’t fit in the newsletter, like work-in-progress or quick questions.
Why Substack Notes?
If this seems like just another social network (good lord, please no), it’s not. I thought so too at first and didn’t want to join. But then I decided to poke in and look around, and now I really like Notes.
To me it feels like a place for authentic discussion of ideas I actually care about, not “pretty pictures and curated videos” that someone made to get me to follow them, blah blah blah. It’s an alternative to legacy social media, if you will, in a much less exploitative format. Nobody is making money from your eyeballs on their Notes. No one is paying to promote their notes. Etc. I find it much easier to be myself in Notes than say, on Instagram… or worse, TikTok. So there’s that.
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to The Messy Human, you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them around!
You can also share notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where every reader of The Messy Human can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there!
